Smith 2YO Plate; Insouciant (Loudenne(Palace Music)) NZ One Thousand Guineas, Keepa Cruisin(Just Cruising (Broad Reach) Levin Classic, and Keep the Peace (Peace of Mind(Wild Rampage)) NZ Oaks Keeper sits at 2nd spot on the NZ General Sires table (by wins and winners) for the 2009/10 season.
The leading sire of 3 yr olds in New Zealand in the 2007/08 season, Keeper has an indvidual black type tally of 16.
His progeny have tasted success not just in New Zealand and Australia, but also Hong Kong ,Singapore, Korea, Macau, Phillippines, Malaysia and South Africa.
He has also produced the Group 2 winner in Australia, Sender (Oh Sister (Marooned))and in New Zealand Group 2 winner Keep the Passion (Impassion (Sir Tristram))as well as Group 3 winners Millbank, (Woodini(Woodman), Keepin' The Dream (Irish Nassie (Nassipour), St Germaine (Selenium(Straight Strike) Keepin' The Dream (Irish Nassie(Nassipour), and in Hong Kong Special Days (Eva's Belle(Grosvenor)) Keep the Message (Miss Morrinsville (Desperate Dee))and Keeper Special (Jasben (Sun and Shine)), Ms Keeper ((Hikutaia Special (Sir Sian)) The Beekeeper (The Minder(Personal Escort) and Sacha (Viva Romance by Machiavellian) are his four Listed winners.
Notably both of Keeper's early Group One winners eminated from Northern Dancer line mares. However, there are also plenty of success stories for breeders who have sent mares from the Sir Gaylord/Turn-To sire line (most of them by Sir Tristram and his sons, Zabeel and Kaapstad) to Keeper.
Keeper's other stakes performers are from dams by Marooned, Desperate Dee, Straight Strike, Zabeel, Jetball and Far Out East.
There is a trend in Keeper's stakes horses for duplication to Secretariat. Keep the Passion is inbred to Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat. Sender is inbred to Nasrullah and Princequillo, who are grand-sires of Secretariat, and Keeper On is in bred to Bold Ruler, the sire of Secretariat. If you own a mare with Secretariat in the pedigree, Keeper is well worth considering.
In his racing career Keeper won the Group One SAJC Goodwood Handicap and the Group Three VATC Victoria Handicap at 3 years of age. His win in the SAJC Goodwood Handicap represented his fourth consecutive success as a 3 yr old. He won over distances from 1200m to 1600m.
