13th Win For Stravinsky Gelding

9 Nov 2011

El Chico (Stravinsky ex Las Chicas Buenas, by Classic Fame) was a runaway winner of yesterday’s $100,000 Steward Stakes-Gr.3 (1200m) at Riccarton Park.

The Mike Pitman-trained seven-year-old romped home by 3.3 lengths.  It was his 13th career victory and his second at Group Three level, the other being the CJC Easter Cup (1600m).

El Chico has been a model of consistency, winning at least once in every one of his five seasons of racing.  What’s more, he appears to have got better with age; he won 4 races as a 5YO, 6 races as a 6YO and yesterday’s win, as a 7YO, was his most important in 59 career outings.

The next available crop of Stravinsky will be sold at Karaka 2012.
