Another Oaks winner for Keeper

18 Mar 2011

Keeper, a sire who continues to go from strength-to-strength with his progeny on the racetrack and yearlings in the selling arena, landed another Oaks success when Midnight Oil took out today’s $300,000 Wellfield New Zealand Oaks-Gr.1 (2400m) at Trentham Gardens.

A year ago another daughter of Keeper, Keep The Peace, won the 2010 running of the New Zealand Oaks, while Miss Keepsake, also by Keeper, won last season’s Queensland Oaks-Gr.1 (2400m).

Midnight Oil (Keeper ex Gilded Light, by Gilded Time), who is prepared by Paul Duncan, has now won four races from eight starts in her first season of racing.  The filly came to Trentham Gardens off the back of success in the Group Three Lowland Stakes at Hastings.

Midnight Oil is not nominated for the upcoming Australian Oaks at Randwick, but her trainer is now considering a run in the Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm during the winter.
