Berlioz Back to Best at Flemington

7 Aug 2010

Berlioz (Zabeel ex Jervaux, by Slavic), the winner of the 2009 VRC St Leger-LR, looked back to his best when charging home from the back to win yesterday’s VRC David Rosenquist & Rosemary Shimmin Handicap (1700m) at Flemington.

Prepared by David Hayes, Berlioz looked smart as a 3YO winning twice and being placed five times from 8 starts at that age.  Apart from the St Leger win, Berlioz was also second to Markus Maximus in the Group One Western Australian Derby (2400m).  Prior to the Derby he was placed third in the WATC Melvista Stakes-LR.

Last season was disappointing for the connections of Berlioz with the horse being unplaced in all four outings.  David Hayes has obviously found the key to the now five-year-old and he looks an interesting prospect for upcoming Spring racing.
