Progeny of Zabeel won black type races on both sides of the Tasman yesterday and both horses were from Danehill mares.
Ironstein (Zabeel ex Gentle Genius) won the VRC Queen Elizabeth Stakes-Gr.3 (2600m) at Flemington while Zabene (Zabeel ex Emerald Dream) took out the CJC Metropolitan Trophy-LR (2500m) at Riccarton Park.
It was Ironstein’s 8th win and took his prize money to A$697,150. It was compensation for the connections of Ironstein who failed to make the field for the Melbourne Cup.
Zabene has now won 9 races and looms as a leading hope for next Saturday’s New Zealand Cup-Gr.3 (3200m).
