Bumper Blast was the least experienced runner in the Subzero Handicap for the greys, but his talent wasn’t to be denied at Flemington.
He raced wide in the body the field and when Craig Williams asked him for an effort the response was immediate.
The lightly-tried four-year-old lengthened stride impressively for his second success in three starts.
“He’s a nice, progressive horse and fantastic for us to have him,” trainer Robert Hickmott said.
Bumper Blast was bred by Brendan and Jo Lindsay and was originally sold at Karaka as a weanling for $65,000.
He is the only foal to race so far for Bucklebury, a well-related More Than Ready mare.
She is a half-sister to Von Tunzelman, Sheriff and Prince Jabeel, who are all Group Three winners.
Their dam is J’Adane, who only won one race but placed at Group One, Two and Three level.
Bucklebury has a So You Think filly at foot and will be served by Embellish this season.
