La Romanee is proving a dashing advertisement for his Cambridge Stud-based sire Burgundy.
The youngster completed back-to-back wins at Riccarton with an electric display today to claim the Listed Barneswood Farm Welcome Stakes.
The two-year-old missed the start and was near last on the turn when rider Sam Wynne angled him wide.
La Romanee lengthened stride powerfully down the outside to win going away.
He was a $22,500 Karaka purchase from Brighthill Farm’s 2019 NZB Book 2 yearling draft for John and Marie Miller, whose son Daniel trains the gelding.
“Full credit to them, they went up there and liked the look of him,” Daniel Miller said.
“From the get go he’s showed a lot of ability and he still does a lot wrong.
“He’s one of the hardest pulling horses I’ve ridden.”
With two wins to his credit, La Romanee has enough in stake money to be assured of a start in the Karaka Million.
La Romanee is bred by Lloyd and Heather Monehan. He is out of the 6 time winning Casual Lies mare Celtic Dream, who is also the dam of Tavistock’s black-type winner Won Won Too.
