Cambridge Stud Owned Filly Wins NZ 2000 Guineas - Group 1

7 Nov 2009

Katie Lee, raced by Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan, was a dominant winner of the NZ$1m New Zealand 2000
Guineas at

Riccarton
Park
yesterday, beating the colts and geldings in the hands of Opie Bosson.

Sir
Patrick Hogan purchased Katie Lee from her breeders, Denny and
Mark Baker of Hallmark Stud, at the 2008 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premiers Sale for $340,000.

Katie Lee becomes the fifth individual Group One winner for her sire, Waikato Stud stallion Pins, who has 30 black type winners.

The win was special for trainers Graeme Rogerson and his wife, Debbie, as it represented their first Group One success since forming a training partnership at the start of this season.

Consideration is being given to Katie Lee backing up in next Saturday's $300,000 NZB New Zealand 1000 Guineas-Gr.1, but much will depend on how the grey filly comes through the race this weekend.

Katie Lee (Pins ex Miss Jessie Jay, by Spectacularphantom) has now won 4 of her 9 starts and been placed on 4 occasions.  Last season she won the Group Three Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie and she won the Listed James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes against a strong field as her final lead-up to the 2000

Guineas
