27 Mar 2012

Galileo, the sire of Cambridge Stud’s new shuttle horse for 2012 Cape Blanco, topped the stallion premierships in both Great Britain and Ireland last year.

Galileo’s season in Great Britain saw 47 individual winners including 9 black type winners, the best being the unbeaten champion Frankel (ex Kind, by Danehill).  He won five Group Races for Galileo on British racetracks during 2011, four at Group One level.

Galileo’s leading earner in Ireland during 2011 was Treasure Beach (ex Honorine, by Mark of Esteem), the winner of the Irish Derby-Gr.1.  Aidan O’Brien travelled Treasure Beach to America and was rewarded with success in the Secretariat Stakes-Gr.1 at Arlington Park last August.

For the record, Galileo was also second on the French Stallion Premiership for 2011, siring 18 individual winners there.

According to figures from Arion Pedigrees (www.arion.co.nz) to 28 March, Galileo is the sire of 715 individual winners worldwide.  He has 98 individual black type winners which have collectively won 204 Group and Listed Races.
