Cheque Every Start For Winter King

16 Jun 2009

Winter King, part of the initial Southern Hemisphere crop of
One Cool Cat
won his second race in impressive style at the Canterbury racecourse in Sydney yesterday.

Trained by David Payne and ridden by Nash Rawiller, Winter King won the 1100m juvenile event by two lengths.  It was his second win in succession, the other coming at Gosford at the start of May where he scored by more than 4 lengths over 1000 metres.

At his debut run in the spring, Winter King was stakes-placed second behind Real Saga in the Listed AJC Breeders' Plate (1000m).  Winter King has run in the first three placings at all five starts to date.

From the Bletchingly mare Something Special, Winter King is a half-brother to How Good Is He, a Listed Race winner by Fasliyev.  Winter King was bred and raised at Wellfield Lodge in Palmerston North and sold by them at last year's New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.  The buyer was Les Samba who went to $175,000 to secure the colt.
