John Wheeler-trained 3yo
Court Ruler has proved superior to his older rivals by winning the Group 3 Selaks $100,000 Trentham Stakes (2100m) at Trentham on Saturday.

The win was the best to date for the son of Cambridge Stud-based sire Viking Ruler who scored by a neck from O'Reilly's Rose. It was an upset victory by Court Ruler who was at odds of better than 26 to one.

Wheeler has always held a high opinion of Court Ruler and considered him an ideal Derby type.

Court Ruler was ridden by the country's leading apprentice rider James McDonald.

Wheeler bought Court Ruler for $30,000 from the draft of Cheveley Stud at the 2007 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale.
