27 Feb 2009

Sunday's $2.2 million Telecom New Zealand Derby (2400m) will hold plenty of interest for Cambridge Stud-based stallions.

Bruce Wallace-trained
Sufficient is by resident sire Zabeel who already has an excellent record in the Group 1 3-year-old classi.

Zabeel's previous New Zealand Derby winners have been St Reims, Hades and Zonda.

Sufficient has built up a consistent record this campaign with some stylish efforts. He is from an outstanding family which is chock-full of stakes winners.

His dam, Fleur De Chine, has also left the Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder.

John Wheeler-trained
Court Ruler is by another sire based at Cambridge Stud, Viking Ruler.

Court Ruler was the winner two starts back of the Trentham Stakes over 2100m in which he defeated the older horses under weight-fior-age conditions. He will be ridden by Danny Brereton.
