Zabeel had a leading role in proceedings at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day with both the City of Auckland Cup-Gr.2 and ARC Championship Stakes-Gr.2 winners being from his daughters.

Single Minded (Bachelor Duke ex Capacity, by Zabeel) is a rising staying star and showed great fighting qualities to take the City of Auckland Cup (2400m) on a testing track.  Silent Achiever (O’Reilly ex Winning Spree, by Zabeel), a filly, took on the colts and geldings in the Championship Stakes (2100m) and proved her class with an authoritative win.

On the same day at Ellerslie Zabeel had three further black type placings as a broodmare sire with Joy’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice ex Tricia Ann, by Zabeel) third in the Royal Stakes-Gr.2; Irish Rebel (Danehill Dancer ex Ballycairn, by Zabeel) second in the Eclipse Stakes-Gr.3 and Lady Krovanh (Dehere ex Miss Krovanh, by Zabeel) third in the Championship Stakes-Gr.2.

Zabeel currently has a commanding lead on both the Australian and New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premierships.

His domination in this role has been coming for some time, but it’s arrived in force this season.  In Australia he’s the damsire of Southern Speed (Caulfield Cup-Gr.1) and Atlantic Jewel (1000 Guineas-Gr.1) while at home the class 3YO filly Planet Rock (1000 Guineas-Gr.1) is from the Zabeel mare Akris.
