When He’s Remarkable (Pentire ex Axiom, by Zabeel) won yesterday’s A$1m Railway Stakes-Gr.1 in Perth, only to subsequently lose the race in the Stewards’ Room, it looked like a disappointing day for Zabeel’s fantastic run in Australia this season as a broodmare sire.
However he made amends in the West Australian Guineas-Gr.2 (1600m) when King Saul (Flying Pegasus ex Zenda, by Zabeel) took out the A$350,000 feature.
Zabeel maintains his lead in the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership being the sire-of-the-dams of 77 individual winners so far this season. His tally includes major contributions from Southern Speed (Caulfield Cup) and Atlantic Jewel (1000 Guineas).
