Regally-bred
Haya (Zabeel x Tudor Era) enhanced an excellent racing record with her win in the Newstalk ZB Stayers (2100m) at Ellerslie on Sunday (Derby Day).

Haya has now won three of her last four starts and has a total of four wins to her credit. Her previous wins came at Avondale on February 6, 2008, followed by successes at Te Rapa on December 20 and at Thames on January 4.

Her dam, Tudor Era, won six times during her racing career and comes from one of the most successful families in the New Zealand stud book.

It is the family of wonderful racemare Elabama who was brought into New Zealand by the then successful breeder and owner Ian Malcolm of Kinross Stud and before she went to stud she won many major races in New Zealand including the two big sprints, the Group1 Railway Handicap at Ellerslie and the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap at Trentham.

At stud Elabama also proved highly successful with her best being the brilliant
Tudor Light, who headed the Two-Year-Old Free Handicap back in 1974-75 and gained 16 wins including the Group 1 Easter Handicap over 1600 metres at Ellerslie and Group 1 Railway Handicap.

The same family boasts champion filly Our Tristalight and proven sire Danske.

Haya is raced by her breeder retired vet Colin Thompson, his wife Irene and son John and  wife, Colleen with John being the principal of  Rich Hill Stud at Walton on the outskirts of Matamata
