There was honour in defeat for the Cambridge Stud-homebred and raced Manchu at Awapuni where she collected a first black-type credit.
The filly produced a gallant performance to finish runner-up in the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes and boost her future broodmare value.
The lightly-tried Manchu joined stablemate and fellow homebred Familia on the stakes board, the latter recently finishing third in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes.
The Lance Noble-trained Manchu is a daughter of Redoute’s Choice and Empress Cixi.
The dam is an unraced daughter of Shamardal and is a half-sister to the European Group 2 winner Ocovango.
Familia’s brave Bonecrusher effort also produced a significant pedigree update for her younger half-sister.
A Tarzino filly will be offered by the farm as Lot 577 during New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale at Karaka next month.
Their dam is the High Chaparral mare Enjay, a half-sister to the Gr.2 Shannon Stakes winner Rolling Pin.
It’s also the deep family fo the Gr.3 Taranaki Cup winner and Gr.1 New Zealand Stakes runner-up Girl Of My Dreams.
