Its official: Zabeel Champion Broodmare Sire of both Australia & NZ

30 Jul 2012

Zabeel has today added two Broodmare Sire Premierships to his long list of achievements, becoming the Champion Broodmare Sire in both Australia and New Zealand for the 2011/2012 Season.

While he has 15 Dewar Awards (Australia & NZ earnings combined), 2 Australian Stallion Premierships and 4 New Zealand Stallion Premierships, it’s the first time Zabeel has landed a broodmare sire title.

With still the last day of the racing season to run in Australia, Zabeel is the sire-of-the-dams of 192 individual winners there this season.  Collectively they’ve won A$12,532,134, which is around A$1.27m clear of his closest rival, Danehill.

Zabeel’s daughters produced 14 individual black type winners in Australia this season and collectively they won 21 stakes races.  There were three Group One winners, namely Atlantic Jewel (2), Invest and Southern Speed.

The NZ racing season is over and Zabeel’s figures (courtesy Arion Pedigrees) reveal that his daughters have left 68 individual winners who have earned NZ$2,649,729 (Centaine next best with NZ$1.7m).

Zabeel is the sire-of-the dams of 9 individual black type winners in NZ this season.  They’ve won 17 stakes races, two of them at Group One level, namely Silent Achiever (NZ Derby) and Planet Rock (NZ 1000 Guineas).
