Karaka Moment: Another Planet Rock?

12 Feb 2012

A stunning individual coupled with a proven cross were no doubt some of the reasons behind Ger Beemsterboer of the Netherlands stretching to $600,000 to secure Cambridge Stud’s Zabeel filly from La Quinta Gold at the recent NZB Karaka Premier Sale.

The Zabeel/La Quinta Gold mating has already proven successful on three occasions with Our Heir Apparent (2 wins & stakes-placed), Zaquinta (winner in Australia) and Integration (winner & 4th in VRC St Leger) all representing that cross.  La Quinta Gold (Encosta de Lago) has also left Sarenko (5 wins, by Stravinsky), so has a 100% winning record with her runners to date.

Zabeel currently leads both the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership and the New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premiership, a statistic which wouldn’t have been lost on Ger Beemsterboer and his New Zealand trainers, Peter & Dawn Williams.
