John, Michael & Wayne Hawkes know all about the stock of Zabeel; Maluckyday is one horse by the sire the trio has trained to win more than A$1m in prize money inclusive of a second placing in the 2010 Melbourne Cup behind Americain.
Another Zabeel trained by Team Hawkes is Rainbow Styling, already a Group Three and Listed Race-winning horse and a favoured contender for this Sunday’s A$225,000 AAMI Hobart Cup-Gr.3 (2200m).
So it was no surprise when Team Hawkes purchased Lot 152 from the Cambridge Stud consignment on the first day of the Karaka Premier Sale. The impressive Zabeel colt from the Stravinsky mare Dawninsky made $420,000.
