Cambridge Stud’s special broodmare Katie Lee took her breeding record to two-from-two with the success of her regally bred filly Simogramor (Fastnet Rock) at Gisborne yesterday.
Prepared at Tuhikaramea by Team Rogerson, Simogramor had been placed on debut as a juvenile behind the talented Espumoso, who has taken Hong Kong by storm with three wins from as many starts under the new name of Regency Legend.
Handled patiently by her mentors, the Fastnet Rock filly showed a torrent of speed for apprentice jockey Shiarna Johnson when leading all the way to win her two preparatory trials by a combined 18 lengths prior to Sunday’s raceday reappearance, which also served as her promising jockey’s first career win.
Katie Lee, who was the history-making winner of the New Zealand Gr.1 1000 and 2000 Guineas, has now had the two to race for two winners.
Katie’s first winner was Legramor (Commands). In the pipelines, she has a Savabeel 2YO named Lethal, an Iffraaj colt who was recently purchased at the 2019 Book One Sale by Aquis Farm and Rogerson Bloodstock for $420,000 and a Snitzel colt at foot.
Katie Lee is currently in foal to Almanzor.
