Cambridge Stud-based sire
Keeper  (pictured below) continued his run of winners when Mark Phillips-trained two-year-old
Matost won on debut at Wednesday's Racing Tauranga meeting.

Phillips said he expected his young galloper to perform well after having won a trial at Paeroa. Matost was ridden by Michelle Wenn.

"I've known for quite a while that he's a very capable horse and he showed that today," Phillips said.

"I'm not sure of future plans for him. I just wanted to see today'srace first," he said.

Phillips races the Keeper x Moygara gelding in partnership with his friendsm Stephen Gutry and Tony Morris. The same trio bred him.

Matost comes from the family of Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner, Legs and Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes winner Sixty Seconds as well as a host of other top-class gallopers including Arletty, Star Worship and Dark Isa.

His dam, Moygara, was the winner of two races and a very capable galloper. Unfortunately she had to be put down when Matost was a weanling due to laminitis.

His sire, Keeper, is now the sire of 76 individual winners including five individual stakes winners which are headed by this season's Group 1 winners
Insouciant and
Keepa Cruisin.
