Kroner Wins Stakes Race

Kroner (Viking Ruler x Monroe Magic) has picked up his first stakes race victory by taking out the Listed Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick on Easter Monday.

The Bart Cummings-trained galloper has always looked a well above average type and cemented this with a fine win.

The race was run in driving rain with Kroner travelling wide but proving too good for his rivals in the closing stages.

"He did everything he was asked to do and it is nice to have a plan work occasionally," commented legendary trainer Bart Cummings.

"Now that he has learned to settle and relax mid-field he has a good turn of foot at the finish, so that's what wins Group I races and hopefully one day he might get there," he added.

Kroner (NZ) has a record of four wins, (the last two in succession), and three placings and stakes of A$155,727 for owners Dato Tan Chin Nam, Dr Michael Alexeeff, W Pasterfield and Dr D Tankard.

Kroner was bred by Whakanui Stud in Cambridge, New Zealand which sold him for A$225,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales on the Gold Coast.

His regally-bred sire, Viking Ruler (Danehill x Tristalove), stands at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand. Viking Ruler will stand at a fee of $6500 in 2009.

He is a half-brother to the Group 1 AJC Derby winner, Headturner, who was also bred by Whakanui Stud.
