Precedence Comes of Age

The Zabeel 5YO Precedence looked every bit a major Spring Carnival Cups chance when scoring an emphatic victory in last night’s Group Three JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

Placed second in the VRC St Leger-LR (2800m) at three, then winning the Listed STC N E Manion Cup (2400m) last season at four, Precedence looked a stronger, more complete racehorse when outgunning Rainbow Styling (also by Zabeel) and Linton.

Prepared by Bart Cummings who purchased the horse for $180,000 at the 2007 NZB Karaka Premier Sale, Precedence was bred by Bloomsbury Stud NZ in conjunction with Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan.

The A$2.5m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) on Saturday, 16 October looks a logical assignment for Precedence, however he is well down the order of entry and his connections will be hoping for a rehandicap to improve his chances of making the field.

Precedence is from the same family as Cambridge Stud newcomer stallion Tavistock.
