Precedence the real deal

Bart Cummings is eyeing the A$400,000 Sydney Cup-Gr.1 (3200m) with his rising star stayer Precedence after the four-year-old won yesterday’s STC Manion Cup-LR (2400m) in the style of a horse going places in a hurry.

Precedence has 52.5kg and is 22nd-equal in the order of entry for the Sydney Cup which happens at Royal Randwick on the 24th of April.

One of two new black type winners on the day for Zabeel (the other was the Rosehill Guineas-Gr.1 winner Zabrasive), Precedence was bred by Bloomsbury Stud in conjunction with Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan and was sold at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale for $180,000.

Precedence is from a happening family with his dam, Kowtow (by Shadeed) being a half-sister to Upstage, the dam of the dual Group One winner this season and recent VRC Blamey Stakes-Gr.2 winner (Lord) Tavistock.

The third dam of both Precedence and (Lord) Tavistock is Mrs Moss, one of the world’s great mares, being the dam of four Group winners including the Japan Cup winner Jupiter Island.
