Redoutes Choice over Zabeel mares

24 Mar 2012

Yesterday’s South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes-LR winner, Papilio, became the latest black type winner by Redoute’s Choice from a Zabeel mare.

This emerging cross now numbers 10 stakes performers including the multiple Group One winner Samantha Miss.  Another notable carrying the Redoute’s Choice/Zabeel cross is Fast ‘n’ Famous, an up-and-coming sire for Waikato Stud.

Bred at Peter & Philip Vela’s Pencarrow Stud and raced by them in conjunction with Jim Gibbs, Papilio was bred to be good.  Her dam La Fleur (Zabeel ex Desert Lily, by Green Desert) won both the ARC Royal Stakes-Gr.2 and Waikato Sir Tristram Fillies Classic-Gr.2.

Papilio’s third dam is Habibti whose 9 wins included the Newmarket July Cup-Gr.1, Royal Ascot King’s Stand Stakes-Gr.1 and Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp.
