Seven Derby runners with Cambridge Stud sire connections

6 Jun 2012

Sir Patrick Hogan and the team at Cambridge Stud will be watching Saturday’s A$500,000 Queensland Derby-Gr.1 with great interest.

There are two runners by ZABEEL in the race, two by LUCKY UNICORN, one by KEEPER; not to mention the fact that two of the most favoured runners in the race, Brambles (by Savabeel) and Vatuvei (by Reset), are by sons of Zabeel.

Zabeelionaire (ex Kisumu, by Carnegie) and Tohunga (ex Justa Tad, by Istidaad) fly the flag for Zabeel.
Zabeelionaire is a last start winner of the South Australian Derby-Gr.1, while Tohunga was a sound fifth in that same race before a last start second over 2800m at Canterbury.

Lucky Unicorn’s two runners are Red Shift, a last start third in the Grand Prix Stakes-Gr.3 and Red Unicorn, one of four runners in the race for John Sargent.

Keeper will be represented by Keep Winning (ex Exotic Dancer, by Slavic), a winner at the Gold Coast two starts ago over 1800m.
