Co-trainer Roger James has his fingers crossed that Sherrif can realise his full potential as a five-year-old.

The Brendan and Jo Lindsay-bred and owned performer certainly made an impressive start at New Plymouth this afternoon.

He was set alight from back in the field by Leith Innes 600 metres from home and came with a sustained finish for his fourth career victory.

“It was a good effort. He’s a horse that’s always looked top shelf,” James said.

“He’s had immaturity issues, hence this is his first start for 15 months so it’s good to have him back.

“Hopefully, he can have a big campaign for Brendan and Jo.”

Sherrif, who won the Gr.3 Manawatu Classic at three, is a son of High Chaparral and the Group One performer J’Adane.
He is a half-brother to fellow Group Three winners Von Tunzelman and Prince Jabeel. J'Adane is currently in foal to European Champion Almanzor.
