Sir Patrick buoyed by demand for sale topper

Sir Patrick Hogan has welcomed a rousing result at last week's Inglis Chairman's Sale in Sydney.

The Cambridge Stud boss has no direct connection to Gr.1 Queensland Oaks winner Provocative, who was knocked down to Auckland bloodstock agent for $1.2 million to top the session.

However, Sir Patrick noted that Provocative was from one of the final crops of all-time champion New Zealand stallion Zabeel and in-foal to another of Cambridge Stud's blue riband stallions in Tavistock.

"It certainly would have helped her price that she was carrying a Tavistock foal," Sir Patrick said.

"That Tavistock over a Zabeel mare has been a winning cross so far, through the likes of Tarzino, Werther and Tavago, so the track record is there."

Cambridge Stud will announce Tavistock's service fee later this week.
