Zabeel four-year-old gelding,
Six O'Clock News, delivered on his big reputation to win the Group 2 $200,000 Don Ha City Of Auckland Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie on January 1.
The Cambridge trained stayer had failed badly in the Waikato Cup at his previous start but was not suited by a slow pace on that occasion.
With a much faster-run race this time Six O'Clock News was able to power home in the closing stages and post an impressive win - his fifth success from 18 starts.
Six O'Clock News (ex Maurine) was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan in partnership with the Bax family from Blandford Lodge in Matamata.
Future plans for Six O'Clock News will feature a tilt at the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie in March and longer term the target is the Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November.
Six O'Clock News is trained by Paddy and Trent Busuttin.
