Winter King (ex Something Special, by Bletchingly) became the tenth black type winner for former Cambridge Stud based sire One Cool Cat when winning yesterday’s STC Starlight Stakes-LR at Rosehill Gardens.
Prepared by David Payne, who also saddled up the second horse Centennial Park, Winter King has now won 7 of his 17 starts for prize money of A$329,605.
Bred by Peter Gillespie and Bill Gleeson, Winter King was sold by Wellfield Lodge for the $175,000 at the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale. The buyer was Les Samba.
According to post-race reports, Winter King could have his next outing in the fortnight in the STC Concorde Stakes-Gr.3 (1100m). Safely through that assignment the recently-gelded son of One Cool Cat could be sent to Melbourne for the Manikato Stakes-Gr.1 (1200m) at Moonee Valley, 24 September.
