South Australian Derby next for Zabeelionaire

The A$500,000 South Australian Derby-Gr.1 (2500m) to be run at Morphettville, 05 May, is next on the agenda for Zabeelionaire after his impressive staying performance at Caulfield yesterday.

The handsome son of Zabeel and Kisumu (by Carnegie) was in a rearward position for much of the running in yesterday’s Eastern Bridge 3YO Plate (2000m), but swept down the outside for Jake Noonan to win going away by two-and-a-half lengths.

Raced by a syndicate led by Brad Spicer, Zabeelionaire looked good during the spring with fourth placings in both the Victoria Derby-Gr.1 (2500m) and MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes-Gr.2 (1600m).

Meanwhile Zabeel continued to shine as a broodmare sire yesterday with Dear Demi (Dehere ex Shirley, by Zabeel) winning the Fernhill Handicap-LR (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
Zabeel looks set to take out both the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership & the New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premiership this season.
