The Passing Of a Great Friend

14 Sep 2009

Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan and staff at Cambridge Stud are mourning the passing of a close and dear friend.

John Ryan, affectionately known as JR, passed away last week at his home in Cambridge

Known throughout Cambridge for his tireless community work, JR, an accountant by trade and Justice of the Peace, was named in this year's Honours List receiving a Queen's Service Medal for the role he played in establishing the Cambridge Community Marae.

Friend to Sir Patrick Hogan's late father, Tom Hogan, JR started his relationship with Cambridge Stud doing the books when Tom Hogan imported stallion Blueskin.

The relationship continued with Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan and JR has been a staunch and loyal supporter of both Cambridge Stud and the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry as a whole.

An avid reader, lover of history and sports and keen trout fisherman, JR also made frequent trips across the ditch to the Melbourne Cup, other notable Australian races and the William Inglis Easter Sales in Sydney.

His sense of humour, sound advice and loyal support will be missed by many in the community and none more so than Sir Patrick, Lady Hogan and Cambridge Stud staff.

Our thoughts and prayers are with JR's family.  He was a true gentleman who will be sincerely missed.
