Zabeel is currently a close third on the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership behind only Arazi (damsire of Melbourne Cup winner Americain) and Grand Lodge (damsire of Zipping).
According to figures provided by Arion Pedigrees (www.arion.co.nz), Zabeel is the sire this season to date of 66 individual winners in Australia. Collectively that group has won 89 races for prize money of A$3,573,307. Zabeel’s figures are only A$200k short of the leader on the list, Arazi.
This season to date in Australia Zabeel is the sire of the dam of six individual black type winners of eight stakes races. Top of the list is the Peter Moody-trained Anacheeva, the winner of the recent Group One Caulfield Guineas. Only yesterday Zabeel mares produced two Group Three winners at the Sandown meeting, with Larry’s Never late taking out the Foundation Stakes and Viking Hero the Eclipse Stakes.
Zabeel’s overall record as a Broodmare Sire to date is impressive. He is the sire of the dams of 687 winners worldwide. Collectively that global group of horses has won 1916 races and numbers 65 black type winners, 42 at Group prestige level.
