Tremec & Sheahan continue momentum for Zabeel

Zabeel’s bid to win his 15th Dewar Stallion Trophy (combined Australian and New Zealand progeny earnings) was assisted yesterday by winning efforts from Tremec at Gosford and Sheahan at Darwin.

Tremec (Zabeel ex Tipple, by Stravinsky) has now won two races on end for the powerful combination of Nathan Tinkler and John Thompson.  Tinkler’s Patinack Farm purchased the three-year-old for $400,000 from Wentwood Grange at the 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premier Sale.

Tremec was bred to be good with his dam being a half-sister to the Melbourne Cup winner Brew.  His second dam is the wonder mare Horlicks (17 wins including 6 at Group One level).  This is the family of the Australian Derby winner Fiumicino.

While Tremec was doing the business at Gosford, hundreds of kilometres away at Darwin Sheahan (Zabeel ex Just Polite, by Dehere) took out the Toyota Cup (1600m).

Sheahan is another by Zabeel with a big female pedigree.  His dam, Just Polite won 8 races, the best being the STC Kingston Town Stakes-Gr.3.  She, in turn, is a half-sister to the VRC Oaks-Gr.1 place getter, Savsbelle
