Zabeel 3YO impresses

Tohunga (Zabeel ex Justa Tad, by Istidaad) created a big impression at Gosford yesterday winning at his fourth start by nearly 6 lengths.

Gai Waterhouse purchased the gelding from the consignment of Cambridge Stud at the 2010 NZB Karaka Premier Sale for $425,000 and has been patient with the well bred horse.

Tohunga was second at his debut at Wyong last October over 1350m.  He ran third next up over 1600m at Randwick before being put aside.  He resumed last month with a second placing at Newcastle (1500m) and was sent out a hot favourite yesterday for his first outing over ground (2100m).

Tohunga was bred to be good with his dam, Justa Tad, winning both the NZ 1000 Guineas and NZ Oaks at Group One level.  She was the NZB 3YO Filly of the Year in 2005.
