The Gr.1 South Australia Derby bound
Berlioz (NZ) (Zabeel) continued a weekend of dominance for the NZ-breds in Australia on Saturday, leading home an all-kiwi trifecta in the St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Flemington.
With the NZ-suffix filling the first three placings home in the Gr.1 Sydney Cup at Randwick,
Berlioz (NZ),
Precedence (NZ) (
Zabeel) and Buffett
(NZ) (Danasinga) duly followed suit in Melbourne, completing a clean-sweep in the 2800m Listed feature.
Berlioz (NZ), who is prepared by David Hayes, was a close second to Markus Maximus
(NZ) in the Gr.1 WA Derby at his last start, and in total has raced on seven occasions to return two wins and five placings.
Both
Berlioz (NZ) and
Precedence (NZ) are by Cambridge Stud's irrepressible champion sire Zabeel (NZ).
Precedence (NZ), who was purchased at the 2007 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale for NZ$180,000 is raced by Zabeel's owner, Sir Patrick Hogan, together with the four-time Melbourne Cup-winning owner Dato Tan Chin Nam, and the Duchess of Bedford.
