With the
2011 W S Cox Plate just over a week away, memories of Zabeel’s four winners of the famous race come flooding back.
In fact, Zabeel has sired more Cox Plate winners than any other stallion.
The great Octagonal, bred, raised and sold by Cambridge Stud, was his first in 1995.
Three year’s later Might and Power won the race for Zabeel in the hands of Jimmy Cassidy.
In 2004 Savabeel become another 3YO son of Zabeel to win the Cox Plate, while the sire’s most recent winner is Maldivian (another bred, raised & sold by Cambridge Stud), who won the race in 2008 for Mark Kavanagh and Michael Rodd.
Zabeel has two of his progeny nominated for the 2011 W S Cox Plate, namely Efficient and Lights of Heaven.
