Zabeel has been directly involved with a stack of the key race results so far at the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
It started with Atlantic Jewel (from a Zabeel mare) winning the Thousand Guineas-Gr.1.
A few days later, Southern Speed (also from a Zabeel mare) won the A$2.5m Caulfield Cup.
The two results took Zabeel to a clear lead in the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership.
The W S Cox Plate rolled around and while Zabeel couldn’t add to his own record of 4 winners of the famous race, his son Reset obliged as the sire of Pinker Pinker.
A week later Zabeel’s influence as a sire-of-sires was to the fore once again when Sangster (by Zabeel’s sire son, Savabeel) showed grit and determination to win the A$1.5m Victoria Derby.
The Carnival’s not over yet; on Thursday the A$1m Crown Oaks is up for grabs and Zabeel has a leading contender in Rahveel (ex Sara Vee) who will be ridden by Damian Oliver.
