Zabrasive becomes 40th Gr.1 winner for Zabeel

27 Mar 2010

Zabrasive’s courageous victory in yesterday’s A$500,000 Darley Rosehill Guineas-Gr.1 (2000m) provided his sire, Zabeel with his third Group One winner this season, the others being Efficient (VRC Turnbull Stakes) and Zavite (Auckland Cup).

Zabeel now has 40 individual Group One winners to his credit, 5 short of the tally his own sire Sir Tristram achieved during his long and illustrious career at Cambridge Stud.

Zabeel now has 129 individual black type winners and that’s just one short of the 130 clocked up by Sir Tristram during his time.

Zabrasive was bred by Don and Rochelle McLaren at their Northfields Stud in South Auckland and was sold for them by Haunui Farm at the 2008 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premier Sale for $95,000.

The buyer was Sydney trainer John O’Shea who has done a wonderful job with Zabrasive, winning the Rosehill Guineas at just the sixth start for the son of Zabeel and the Danehill mare Danasia.

Zabrasive now looms as a major contender for the A$1.3m Australian Derby at Royal Randwick in two weeks time.

Zabeel - 40 individual Group One winners & still going strong!
