6 Jul 2013

Turner Bayou became the 147th black type winner for his sire Zabeel when taking out yesterday’s Listed BRC Queensland Cup over 3200 metres at Eagle Farm.

Bred by Monovale Holdings Ltd, Turner Bayou is from the Redoute’s Choice mare Classy Choice, herself a winning half-sister to Devil Moon, a mare Mark Kavanagh trained to win 8 races including the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

A four-year-old, Turner Bayou was purchased for $160,000 at the 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale by John Foote.  He is trained by Patrick Payne and now has a record of 14 starts for 5 wins, 3 placings and prize money of A$230,847.

It’s been an excellent Queensland Winter Carnival for the stock of Zabeel, with his three-year-old daughter Gondokoro providing the highlight when taking out the Group One Queensland Oaks.
