43rd Group One winner for Zabeel

3 Jun 2013

Zabeel’s quinella in the 2013 edition of the Queensland Oaks-Gr.1 (2400m) took his individual tally of Group One winners to 43, just two short of the lifetime total of his own sire, Sir Tristram.

Still active at the ripe old age of 26, Zabeel has covered 395 mares during his last five seasons at stud, so there’s still plenty of progeny coming through to assist the modern-day Super Sire past the fantastic Group One mark set by his dad.

Gondokoro (Zabeel ex Kisumu, by Carnegie) headed home Miss Zenella (Zabeel ex Diamond Like, by Danehill) in Saturday’s A$402,500 Queensland Oaks.
The winner was bred and is owned by Wyadup Valley Farm, while the second horse was bred at Cambridge Stud by Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan.

For the record, according to figures provided by Arion Pedigrees, Zabeel’s up-to-date key sire statistics are as follows (figures to 03 June 2013)

  • 993 individual winners worldwide

  • 3308 races won

  • 146 individual black type winners

    • 43 Group One winners

    • 350 Stakes Races won

  • Worldwide progeny earnings A$170.7m

  • Winners in 14 countries
