The talented and super-consistent mare Fleur de Lune (Stravinsky ex Kapsjoy, by Kaapstad) broke through for a well deserved black type success in yesterday’s Foxbridge Plate-Gr.3 (1200m) at Te Rapa.
The Lee Somervell-trained mare had previously been placed in no less than four Group One races, so a victory in stakes company was more that overdue.
Fleur de Lune was second in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes-Gr.1 at three years and backed up last season for a third placing in the same event. Also last season she was third in the Makfi Challenge Stakes-Gr.1 and ARC Easter Handicap-Gr.1.
Bred by Mrs Ada Parnwell and raced by her in conjunction with John and Colleen Duncan, Fleur de Lune has a record now of 18 starts for 5 wins, 5 seconds, 5 thirds and prize money of $236,275.
Stravinsky now moves to 70 individual black type winners and worldwide he has a staggering 789 individual winners; few stallions of his age, anywhere, can match his record in this area.
