All smiles with Funny Girl

Funny Girl makes up for her lack of stature with her determined nature and that was again emphasised at Pukekohe.

Our genuine daughter of Showcasing took a step back in class in the open sprint over 1200 metres and took full advantage for the fourth victory of her career.

She had picked up an all-important black type credit two runs back when third in the Listed Hallmark Stud Handicap and then finished a game fifth in the G3 Concorde Handicap.

Funny Girl flew the gates at Pukekohe to make the running and kicked strongly 300 metres from home to have 1.3l on her closest rival at the post.

“I think the race was won when she jumped so well and was able to lead,” trainer Lance Noble said.

“She’s not very big, but she tries hard and doesn’t get buffeted around when she’s in front.”

Funny Girl was ridden by Warren Kennedy and she proved a willing partner for the multiple Group 1-winning jockey in the straight.

“Once she’s in front, she really battles on and she’s an honest little mare who always tries her best,” he said.

We purchased Funny Girl for $50,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale at Karaka where she was offered by Lilywhites Lodge.

Funny Girl is from a well-performed Haunui Farm family and is out of the four-time winner Triaction.

She is a three-quarter sister to the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Perfect Fit, who is out of the triple Group 1 winner Fayreform.
