Almanzor’s daughter Katoucha has posted an impressive debut victory to credit our shuttle stallion with his first three-year-old winner of the French season.
Trained by Fabrice Vermeulen, the filly lined up over 1500 metres at Cagnes Sur Mer and was in contention at the top of the straight.
She surged to the front down the middle of the track 400 metres from home and, under hands and heels riding from Christophe Soumillon, stayed on strongly to win comfortably at the first time of asking.
A half-sister to five winners, Katoucha is out of the well-related Holy Roman Emperor mare Perfect Day.
The dam is a daughter of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Yesterday, a sister by Sadler’s Wells to the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Quarter Moon.
She produced the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Diamondsandrubies with Frankel’s Group 2-winning son and New Zealand-based-sired Eminent another high-profile family member.
