Almanzor 3YO relishes extra distance25 May 2023

A step up to a more suitable trip at Gosford was key to the Brad Widdup-trained Dawla breaking her maiden.

We bred and sold the three-year-old daughter of Almanzor, who successfully stepped up to 1600 metres for the first time to post the first success of her four-start career.

The filly drifted back in the field and came from second last with 400 metres to run with a stout finishing burst to win going away by nearly two lengths.

Dawla was purchased out of our New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale draft at Karaka in 2021 with bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo and New South Wales’ Honeycomb Stud signing the ticket at $70,000.

She is a daughter of the unraced Lucky Unicorn mare Satisfact who is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winners St Reims and Champagne.

The G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Charmont also features in the upfront pedigree while the page also includes Bonneval, successful three times at the elite level.
