Magnace made an impressive return to racing at Werribee and connections believe he has a bright future over ground.

The three-year-old son of Almanzor was making his first appearance since February and was produced in fine fettle by trainer Danny O’Brien to win first-up over 1620 metres.

Magnace was quickly into stride to lob along in third spot and, after hitting the front early in the run home, he stayed on strongly to score by a length and a-half at his fourth start.

“Plan A worked straight away and I tucked him in behind them and he was very good through the line,” rider Billy Egan said.

“It didn’t take too much out of him and he’s going to be a very handy stayer.”

Magnace was bred by the late Sir Patrick Hogan and Justine Lady Hogan with Letmar Investments and was purchased out of Woburn Farm’s draft at Karaka for $320,000 with O’Brien and agent Bruce Perry signing the ticket.

He is a son of the Zeditave mare Assertiveobsession, who is a sister to the multiple Group 1 winners Assertive Lad and Assertive Lass.
