Trav doubled his winning tally in fine style when he rounded off strongly at Greymouth in his first middle distance appearance.

The Almanzor three-year-old’s performance in his first start beyond a mile was made all the more meritorious as he accounted for older opposition over 2000 metres.

Trained by co-breeder and part-owner Raymond Connors, Trav settled three back on the fence before he cleared traffic near the turn and finished determinedly in the hands of Terry Moseley.

The gelding, who had been an impressive debut winner last season, was making his first start since finishing sixth in the G3 Wellington Stakes in November so it’s reasonable to assume the G1 New Zealand Derby nominee will derive benefit from his latest outing.

Trav is bred to be in his element over ground as his dam Royal Sav is a daughter of Savabeel who won up to 2000 metres.

Royal Sav, who has an unraced Almanzor juvenile colt, is also from the family of the G1 Auckland Cup winner Roger That and the G2 Wellington Cup and two-time G3 New Zealand Cup winner Blood Brotha.
