Almanzor on top again

Almanzor on top again13 Apr 2021

Our much-admired shuttle stallion Almanzor was again the star of the show when New Zealand Bloodstock’s annual South Island Sale drew to a close.

His daughter, the final offering of the auction, was the top-priced lot when she was purchased by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo for $85,000.

“Obviously there was an attraction to the filly being by Almanzor and when I saw her at the farm, I was most impressed with her as a type and she vetted well,” he said.

“I bought her for a private breeder in Victoria and she will go over there on the next available flight.”

Offered by Brighthill Farm, the filly is a half-sister to promising 3-year-old Montre Moi, third in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic and fourth in the G2 Waikato Guineas.

They are out of the imported In The Wings mare Next, a winner over 2000 metres in France and a three-quarter sister to the G2 Zipping Classic winner Au Revoir and the Listed winners Perfect Stride, Law Lord and Qazyna.

Next has a colt by Embellish catalogued in upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale.
