The well-related Sabar hasn’t wasted any time in displaying his talent on Australian soil.
The French-bred son of Almanzor finished runner-up on debut on a heavy surface at Warrnambool last preparation and then romped to victory on a firm track at Hamilton to open his account this time in.
Sabar was caught wide in third spot to the turn, but when rider Beau Mertens asked him for a serious effort on straightening the response was immediate and he dashed clear to win by 2.75l.
He is trained by Lindsey Smith for a syndicate that includes the Victorian-based Brad Spicer, who purchased Sabar with the assistance of leading European bloodstock agent Alex Elliot at the 2021 Arqana May Two-Year-Old Breeze-Up in England.
Sabar was secured for $467,5000 and is a half-brother to Dice Roll, who won the G3 Prix Djebel and ran third in the G1 French 2000 Guineas.
He subsequently won three races in Australia and finished runner-up in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Sabar’s pedigree also features the international Group 1 winners Recital and Corre Caminos and Daminos.
