Today’s A$505,000 Queensland Derby-Gr.1 at Eagle Farm in Brisbane saw Zabeel as the damsire of the winner and the sire of the third-placed horse.
The Graeme Rogerson-trained Shootoff (Duelled ex Athenri,
by Zabeel) won the race with Heidililous (
Zabeel ex Kerkira, by Danehill) close up in third position.
Shootoff becomes the 13th individual Group One winner from a Zabeel mare.
According to figures provided by Arion Pedigrees (www.arion.co.nz), Zabeel is currently second on the Australian Broodmare Sire Premiership behind only Danehill. This season alone Zabeel’s daughters have provided 157 individual winners.
In New Zealand Zabeel is currently third on the Broodmare Sire Premiership behind Centaine and Kaapstad.
